Overview

REST API

Live

24 endpoints under https://www.glossydata.com/api/v1: projects, visibility per engine, share of voice, competitors, citations, answers, prompts and audits. JSON in, JSON out. 2 are marked Coming soon below.

MCP server

Live

9 tools for Claude, Cursor and any MCP client at https://www.glossydata.com/mcp. Tools run the same code as the REST API, so scopes, statistics and credit rules match.

Every success response is { data, meta }. meta.methodology names the method version (honest-score-v2); rates carry n, k and a 95% ci. How the numbers are computed: methodology.

Authentication

  1. Sign in, then open Settings → API keys in your workspace. Owners and admins can create, rotate and revoke keys.
  2. Name the key, choose its scopes and an expiry (30 days, 90 days, 1 year, Never). The secret starts with slk_ and is shown once. Keys are stored hashed.
  3. Send it on every request as a bearer token: Authorization: Bearer slk_…
Check your key · Terminal
export GLOSSY_DATA_API_KEY="slk_your_key"

curl https://www.glossydata.com/api/v1/me \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $GLOSSY_DATA_API_KEY"
Visibility for one project, last 28 days · Terminal
curl "https://www.glossydata.com/api/v1/projects/PROJECT_ID/metrics?engines=chatgpt,perplexity" \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $GLOSSY_DATA_API_KEY"

Keep the key in an environment variable such as GLOSSY_DATA_API_KEY, never in client-side code. Browser writes from other origins are refused.

Scopes

ScopeAllowsType
read:metricsProjects, visibility, share of voice, competitors, citations, agent traffic.Read
read:answersFull answer text and receipts.Read
write:promptsAdd, edit and archive prompts. Credit-checked and audit-logged. Plans with API write access.Write
run:auditsStart audits from the API or MCP. Uses credits from your pool. Plans with API write access.Write

Rotation and revocation

Rotate issues a new secret with the same name and scopes, and the old secret stops working at once. Revoke a key and it never verifies again; its last-used history stays in the audit trail. Update your environment variable, then rotate.

MCP authentication

The MCP server takes the same API key, sent as a bearer token in the Authorization header. There is no OAuth sign-in step: paste a key into your client's config. A request without a key gets 401 with a WWW-Authenticate header that points to the protected-resource metadata (RFC 9728). MCP keys need read:metrics; tools that need other scopes appear only when the key has them.

Rate limits and plan access

Limits are per key, per minute. REST responses carry x-ratelimit-limit; over the limit you get 429 rate_limited, so wait and retry. A short per-second burst guard also applies.

Plans without write scopes get read-only keys: write:prompts and run:audits are refused with 403. Prompt writes are credit-checked and audits use credits from your pool. Compare plans

MCP quickstart

Server URL https://www.glossydata.com/mcp. Streamable HTTP, stateless: clients send JSON-RPC with POST. Create a key with read:metrics (add read:answers for full answer text), then paste it below in place of slk_your_key.

Claude Desktop reads local servers from its config file, so the snippet runs the open-source mcp-remote bridge (needs Node.js) to reach the HTTP server. Restart the client after editing its config.
